Why are people so hung up on parents with one child having more? Sometimes one is all we need. Sometimes one is all we can handle. And honestly? Both are okay. Don’t get me wrong, I love my child and I love being her mom. But whew… it is EXHAUSTINGGG. LOL. No thanks!
People see one child and somehow think there must be another one coming.
“When are you having another?”
“She needs a sibling!”
“You can’t just have one!”
But have you considered that maybe… I’m good? Because let me tell you what my everyday life already looks like.
Getting my child ready for school while getting myself ready for work. Dropping her off at school and heading to work. Picking her up. Coming home to cook dinner, help with homework, clean, straighten up the house, and somehow get everything ready to do it all over again the next day.
And don’t let said child be involved in extracurricular activities. OMG. It’s chores on top of chores on top of chores for me.
By the end of the day, I am mentally and physically exhausted. And somewhere in between being a mom, working, keeping up with the house, and now being back in school, I’m supposed to find time for myself too? I personally don’t even have much time for myself right now. And when I do have free time, I’m usually trying to catch up on sleep or homework.
So when people ask if I want another child, sometimes my immediate reaction is…
Absolutely not. LOL
There doesn’t have to be some deeper explanation. Having one child doesn’t mean you’re selfish. It doesn’t mean your child is missing something. It doesn’t mean you’re eventually going to change your mind.
Sometimes one child is enough.
For me, I’m learning that motherhood already asks so much of me. I want to be able to give my daughter the best version of myself not just physically, but emotionally and mentally too.
And right now? One is enough for me.
Very much enough!
